MAIL

Sending mail.

There are many Post Office branches located throughout Seville. The largest and, perhaps, most important one can be found on Avda. de la Constitución, across the street from the Cathedral, while the branch closest the ICS is on Avda. de la Raza. From either of these or from any of the other numerous branches located throughout the city letters can be sent, stamps and aerograms purchased, and boxes shipped.  The Post Office in Spain also offers fax and telegram services.

At the present time, the cost to send a regular-sized airmail letter or postcard to the United States is €0.78.  To the U.S. mail generally takes between 5 and 10 days.

While stamped letters may be deposited at any yellow mailbox found on street corners and at intersections, large envelopes or packages must be sent directly from the Post Office.

Mailing costs to to the United States:

  1. Regular size letter: € 0.78
  2. Books or printed documents (air mail; 12-15 days)

    Up to 1 kilo: €18
    1 kilo – 2 kilos: €35.75

  3. More than two kilos is considered a package (materials must be sent in specially marked boxes, to be purchased at the Post Office):

    Air mail: €16 + €8 per kilo (12-15 days)
Boat mail: €12.50 + €4.50 per kilo (one month)

The maximum weight allowed per package is 20 kilograms (45 pounds).

Receiving Mail.

ICS students may receive their mail either at their place of residence in Seville or at the ICS.

All letters and packages sent to students at the ICS should be addressed in the following manner:

STUDENT´S NAME
C/ PORVENIR, 15
41013 SEVILLA
SPAIN

It is not necessary to put the name of the ICS on the envelope or address the letter in c/o a staff member.  Addressing letters in any other manner than as indicated above may lead to confusion and thus cause the correspondence to take longer to reach the student.

Each morning, the day’s mail is deposited in the student mail tray, located within the Student Lounge. Boxes, packages or large envelopes, however, are never left in the mail tray for retrieval.  In these cases, an ICS Mail Notification is left for the student, informing him or her that there is a package to sign for in the main office.

Sometimes the Post Office deems especially large envelopes or packages as undeliverable and sends a mail notification to the recipient, indicating at which branch the correspondence is located. To retrieve an envelope or package from the Post Office one must present the official notification and a valid identification (passport).  Without either of these two documents the package will not be released.

If expecting a package while in Seville, students should be aware of a few matters:
  1. Small uninsured packages (a necklace or ring, for example) often do not make it to their final destination when sent internationally.  These small items should be packaged properly inside a large bubble envelope and be insured by the Post Office, or be sent a courier service (such as Federal Express, UPS, etc.)  for which the item will have a tracking number.
  2. Special U.S. postal services such as "Next Day Service" or "2 Day Service" never take less than four working days to arrive in Seville.
  3. Packages that indicate the monetarily high value of the merchandise inside are retained at the Customs Office in the Seville airport. In order to retrieve the package one must pay a customs fee based on the value of the item/s, directly at the Airport Customs Office.
